John Meade
John Steven Meade, 59, of Manchester, N.H., formerly of Springville, died Sept. 11.

He was born on July 23, 1954 in Kingsport, Tenn., to the late John and Della Mae (nee Akers) Meade.

He graduated from Springville-Griffith Institute and was employed as a technician at Advanced Technologies – Deka Research in New Hampshire.

He rode a Harley-Davidson, watched NASCAR, played guitar and banjo and spent time with his friends in New Hampshire.

He was the husband of Cynthia (nee Snyder) Meade; father of Joshua (Katie) Meade of West Valley and Charles Meade of Denver, Col.; grandfather of Wesley, Christian and Tyler Meade; brother of Teresa (James) Turner of Binghamton, N.Y. and Martha Mauro of Orchard Park; son-in-law of Faithe Snyder of Springville and the late David Snyder; brother-in-law of Rodney Snyder of Springville and David Snyder of Gowanda; also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A funeral service was held Sept. 19 from the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, located at 271 East Main St., in Springville. The Rev. Abel Roy officiated. Burial was in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Springville.

Alma Sion
Alma A. Sion (nee Wittmeyer), 88, of Lawtons, died Sept. 15.

She was born April 9, 1925 in North Collins, to the late Sylvester and Frances (nee Wegner) Wittmeyer.

She was a dairy farmer, with her husband. She shopped for antiques and was a member of the Antique Study Club of Hamburg, through which she set up window displays in the former Emerling Shoe Store in Hamburg. She was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Langford, N.Y., the Collins Horse Club and a gardener.

She was the wife of Wilfred Sion; mother of Sherlyn (Michael) Ostrander of Salem, Conn.; grandmother of Elissa and David; sister of Rosina Wittmeyer of Austin, Texas and the late Paul Wittmeyer; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 20 from Epiphany of Our Lord Church. The Rev. Robert Schober officiated. Burial was in St. Martin’s Cemetery in Langford.
