Edwin Baker
Edwin W. Baker, 76, of West Valley, died July 27, at his home.

He was born Oct. 17, 1936 in Franklinville, to the late Clifford and Anna (nee Butler) Baker.

He married the former Doris Mack on Aug. 22, in West Valley.

He was the husband of Doris (nee Mack) Baker of West Valley; father of Sandra (Dean) Pierce of Hunt, N.Y.; Carolyn Kruse of West Valley; Cheryl (Leonard) Story of Springville and the late Darlene Smith. Grandfather of Daniel, Darrel, Dwayne, Jason, Allen, Melissa, Marla, Leonard Jr. and Kevin; great-grandfather of several great-grandchildren; brother of Clifford (Janet) Baker Jr. of Olean; Carrie Mack of West Valley; the late Clyde and Paul Baker and Margaret Mack; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on July 30, from the Mentley Funeral Home Inc., located at 411 Rock City St., Little Valley. The Rev. Dennis Durfee officiated. Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Ellicottville.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the West Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

Ruth Hanson
Ruth Hanson (nee Rowland), 81, died July 30, at Niagara Lutheran Nursing Home in Buffalo.

She was born in Hardwick, Vt. on Feb. 24, 1932, to Frank and Eva Ruth (nee Alston) Rowland.

She was raised in eastern Tennessee and had her family in Western New York. She volunteered in the community and had lived in Springville, for many years. She worked for Manpower of Buffalo.

She was the wife of the late Donald Hatfield and Ernest Hanson; mother of Howard Hatfield of Millersburg, Ohio, formerly of East Concord; Ellen Hatfield of Millersburg, Ohio; Dora Hatfield-Somerville of Silver City, N.M.; Nora Hatfield of Hillsboro, Ohio and the late Jane Carney. Grandmother of several grandchildren; great-grandmother of several great-grandchildren; also survived by many nieces and nephews; sister of Donna Schaefer of Knoxville, Tenn. and the late Nelson and Charles Rowland.

A funeral service will be held, at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Greenback, Tenn.

Kyle Mesch


Kyle Mesch
Kyle M. Mesch, 52, of Collins died July 28, at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo.

He was born in Springville on Nov. 24, 1960, to Byron and Rose (nee Lux).

He was a champion archer with International Bowhunting Organization. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, a hunter, dairy farmer and had been a welder, for Composite Panel Solutions in Cattaraugus. He served in the United States Army, from 1979 – 1982.

He was the husband of Patricia (nee Hall) Mesch; son of Byron and Rose Mesch; father of Byron of Springville, Jacob of Depew, Halie of Collins, Leiah of Collins, Kevin of Collins, Davis of Collins and the late

Austin Ryan; grandfather of Nadalie Baker; brother of Cheryl (Louie) Horschel, Kim (Karl) Horschel, Sandy (Doug) Griffith of Collins and the late Ray Mesch.

Funeral services will be held Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. from the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, 271 East Main St., Springville. Sister Donna Lord will officiate.
