Cheektowaga Police Blotter, week of Feb. 19

Feb. 10

Petit larceny. Officers were dispatched to Walden Avenue westbound from the Thruway Plaza after dispatch broadcasted that two males who stole baby formula were driving from the Tops Market in Thruway Plaza. Dispatch then broadcasted that the vehicle registration came from a Bailey Avenue address. Officers located the vehicle unoccupied backed into the Bailey Avenue address driveway and knocked on the door of the residence. A female answered and said that her son, the offender, had just come back with the vehicle. When the son came to the door, officers asked if any other male was with him, to which he replied yes. The offender admitted to being in the store but denied stealing anything. Officers transported the witness, the store manager, to Bailey Avenue for a show up. The witness identified the offender as the person who concealed and tried to take the formula without paying, though the witness confronted the offender and recovered the items. The offender, Roger L. Witcher, 46, of Buffalo, was transported to police headquarters, booked, and held. The other male involved was discovered to have had an outstanding Lancaster arrest warrant for grand larceny, fourth degree. Carlton E. Edwards, 62, of Buffalo, was arrested on the warrant.

Criminal possession of stolen property, fifth degree. Officers took a woman into custody because of a shoplifting incident, and while inventorying her property found several articles of stolen property. The listed property, which included shoes and clothing, was stolen from the Sears in the Walden Galleria and returned to the store in good condition. The remaining merchandise that was said to be stolen was confiscated and entered into the property log. Police arrested Keren H. Jolimeau, 18, of Cheektowaga. Jolimeau remained in custody, as she could not make the $250 bail.

Criminal Contempt, second degree. Officers were dispatched to a Gardenvillage Drive location for reports of a male and female yelling at each other and swearing at one another loudly. Officers entered the apartment and tried to control the screaming, but both parties – the victim and offender – would not listen. They were then separated and advised three times to cease the yelling and screaming. The victim stated she wanted the offender to leave the apartment, but both offender and victim are on the lease. Officers tried to get either party to go to a friend’s house, but neither would listen. The victim told officers that prior to their arrival, she was punched in the throat by the offender. Officers placed Anthony Ford, 28, of Cheektowaga, under arrest. Officers did not see any bruises on the victim’s neck but said her neck was very red. The victim, Jennifer Dietrich, 30, of Cheektowaga, would not sign for the harassment charge once she discovered Ford was arrested. Dietrich would also not give officers information regarding the incident. There is currently an outstanding order of protection, refrain from, between the two parties.

Feb. 11

Criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh degree. Patrolling officers were dispatched to Wainwright Road for a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on the wrong side of the road for more than 10 minutes. Upon arrival, officers observed the offender inside of the vehicle in the driver’s seat. While officers were talking to the offender, Officer Arnold observed two small baggies with white residue inside them and identified the substance to possibly be crack cocaine. Officers asked the offender to step out of the vehicle and placed him in the back of a patrol car. Upon further investigation, the substance was confirmed to be cocaine residue. Philip S. Ciccone, 27, of Amherst, was placed in police custody and transported to headquarters where he was booked and held on $300 cash bail. The cocaine was submitted into evidence.

DWI. Officers on routine patrol observed a vehicle moving southbound on Harlem travel through a steady red signal at Genesee Street at a high rate of speed, making no attempt to stop or slow down. Officers made a left turn ontoHarlem to initiate a traffic stop and observed the vehicletreavel from the right lane into the left lane several times. The vehicle made a right turn onto Straley and came to a stop. Officers asked the offender several questions and obtained his docusments. Officers observed an almost empty bottle of vodka on the passenger side florr and asked the offender if he had been drinking, to which he replied he had a couple of drinks five hours ago. Officers asked the offender to exit the vehicle and perform several field sobriety tests. The offender failed the alphabet test, the count backward test, the walk in a heel and toe nine steps test, and the one leg stand test. The offender refused the alcohol sensor test. Based on the performeance of the sobriety tests and signs of intoxication, Prince S. Phillips, 28, of Cheektowaga, was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters where he was charged and issued tickets. The vehicle was towed, inventory form was filed, and the Phillips was held to see the judge in the morning.

Feb. 12

Criminal mischief, fourth degree. Officers were dispatched to a Walden Avenue address for a report of an unwelcome guest. Upon arrival officers were met by the victim at the front door, who stated that his roommate, the offender, broke the door down, entered his bedroom, and slapped him in the face. Officers then entered the apartment and detained the offender. The victim showed his bedroom door, which was clearly broken off the frame, and the redness on his left check on his face. The victim stated the offender was playing music extremely loud, which he does often, and the victim knocked on the offender’s bedroom door to tell him to turn down the music so he could sleep. The offender did not answer his door or turn the music down. Approximately 10 minutes later, the offender knocked down the victim’s door and slapped him in the face for telling him to turn the music down. Lawrence C. Klenk, 53, of Cheektowaga, was placed in custody and transported to headquarters where he was booked and held pending identification. An informal complaint was signed for the harassment second degree by the victim. The victim requested a non offensive order of protection due to a concern that Klenk would retaliate for being arrested.

DWI. Responding officers traveling northbound on Harlem Road at Westbrook observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Harlem with inadequate front head lamps, covered with several inches of snow. Officers stopped the vehicle and interviewed the offender, who exited the vehicle and was ordered back to the vehicle. The offender, Tiffany E. Bieber, 25, of Cheektowaga, admitted to coming from a neighbor’s bar after having consumed a few drinks. Sgt. Coons was notified and said to release on summons with a return court date of Feb. 21 with Judge Piotrowski. The vehicle was turned over to the registered owner, Bieber’s mother.

Harassment, second degree. A woman came to headquarters to report that an argument took place inside of her residence. According to the victim, the suspect came over to visit his daughter and the two began arguing. The victim asked the suspect to leave and gave him her keys to get his property out of the car. He never returned the keys. The victim said she went outside and the suspect turned up and told her where the keys were and spit in her face. She yelled at the suspect for spitting at her and then the suspect slapped her in the face, causing a minor cut to her lower lip. The suspect, Demetrius D. Robinson, 24, of Cheektowaga, left on foot after striking the victim and did not have any more contact with her. The victim them went to headquarters, where she was advised.

Feb. 13

DWI. Responding officers were traveling eastbound on Genesee Street and observed a vehicle swerving back and forth, crossing over the double yellow line, and the white lane divider line. A traffic stop was then initiated at Genesee at Arthur Street. While officers spoke to the offender, who was operating the vehicle, they noticed a strong odor of alcohol. For this reason, field sobriety tests were given, several of which were failed. The offender was offered a roadside screening device, which he refused. Derek K. Hankin, 31, of Depew, was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters, where he was offered a data master breath test. Hankin refused that test also. Hankin was booked and held to see the judge on Feb. 13.

Unlawful possession of marijuana. While patrol officers were traveling eastbound on Walden Avenue, the observed a vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. Oficers made a U-Turn to pace the vehicle’s speed, but were unable to with accuracy. However, officers needed to accelerate just over 50 mph in order to gain any distance on the vehicle. Officers initiated a stop, and upon approaching the vehicle, Offender 1 only rolled her window down partially, handing officers the documents through the narrow opening. As officers approached the passenger side of the vehicle to obtain Offender 2’s identification, they detected the odor of burnt marijuana. Offender 2 did not posess any form of identification. CPD Car no. 8 arrived on scene, at which time offender 2 was removed from the vehicle in order for officers to ascertain his identity and investigate the marijuana odor. As officers were verifying offender 2’s identity, Officer Liesing observed a piece of marijuana in plain view on the passenger side floot board of the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered several pieces of marijuana on the floor surrounding the passenger seat, as well as four partially burnt marijuana cigarettes in the ashtray of the vehicle. Brittany D. Page, 23, of Cheetkowaga, and Brandon R. Welch, 19, of Buffalo, were transported to headquarters, processed, charged, and released on appearance tickets. Page was also issued a summons. The vehicle was released to a valid operator at the scene, and the listed drug evidence was confusicated by officers and secured in the CPD Drug Evidence Locker pending submission to Central Police Services.
