Lost Boy Scout hikers found in Ashford

ASHFORD — New York state police received a report, on the evening of March 22, of two lost hikers in the vicinity of Bolton Road in the town of Ashford.

State troopers arrived on the scene and, with the assistance of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s deputies and the West Valley Fire Department, established a perimeter.

The investigation revealed that a Boy Scout troop was camping on property in the area and two of the campers never returned to the camp site after going for a hike. Trooper Dean Nolte and K9 Nugent, with the assistance of forest rangers and New York state Department of Environmental Conservation, were able to track and locate the missing subjects, who had set up a camp on the south bank of Cattaraugus Creek, approximately 3 miles from the Boy Scout camp. Both subjects were evaluated and released by West Valley ambulance. No injuries were sustained by either subject.
