Police and Fire Report for the Journal week of July 12

Police Report

Erie County Sheriff’s deputies responded to several call between June 28 and July 4 in Boston, Colden, Concord, Sardinia and the village of Springville. Following is a sampling of those calls:

Boston

– Patrol investigated two property damage automobile accidents in the town of Boston between June 28 and July 4.

Colden

– Patrol investigated three property damage automobile accidents in the town of Colden between June 28 and July 4.

Concord

– Patrol investigated one property damage automobile accident in the town of Concord between June 28 and July 4.

– June 29, patrol arrested Paula Gleason, 39, of Springville, for endangering the welfare of a child. She was released on appearance tickets to appear in Concord Court at a later date. The arrest took place on Springville-Boston Road.

– July 4, patrol arrested Robert Schosek, 33, of Springville for driving while intoxicated and other related charges. He refused to submit to a breath test, and is to appear in Concord Court at a later date. The arrest took place on Genesee Road.

Springville

– Patrol investigated one property damage automobile accident in the village of Springville between June 28 and July 4.

– June 29, patrol arrested Lindsey Draper, 29, of West Seneca for DWI and other related charges. Draper submitted to a breath test, with the result being .13 percent. The subject is to appear in Springville Court at a later date. The arrest took place on East Main Street.

– July 4, patrol arrested John Burn, 51, of Springville, for felony criminal contempt in the first degree, menacing in the second degree and harassment. He was committed to the Erie County Holding Center, on no bail, pending arraignment. The arrest took place on Newman Street.

Robert Schosek, 33, of Springville, was charged with driving while intoxicated on July 4 after Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Pisa stopped his vehicle in the town of Concord for speeding and failing to maintain his lane of traffic.

Further investigation led Pisa to arrest Schosek for DWI. He refused to submit to a chemical test and was processed at the sheriff’s Springville substation prior to being released.

Michael J. Berndt, 33, of Main Street in Collins, was arrested for driving while intoxicated on July 5, following a traffic stop on Route 438 on the Seneca Nation of Indians.

Erie County Sheriff’s dispatch received a call from the Seneca Nation marshals, advising their patrol had a vehicle stopped and suspected the driver was intoxicated. Deputies Theresa Nietzel and Ryan Rogers responded to investigate.

Berndt was given sobriety tests, which he failed. He was placed under arrest and subsequently volunteers to a breath test, registering .22 percent blood alcohol content.

A computer check of his driver’s license revealed that he had a previous conviction for DWI, elevating the arrest to a felony. He was also charged with having an open container in his vehicle.

Berndt was released to a third party on traffic summonses and will answer to the charges at a future date in the town of Brand Court. His vehicle was towed and a 12-hour hold was placed on it.

Gene Tingue, 57, of Yorkshire, was arrested on June 27 for harassment in the first degree, disorderly conduct and trespass, pursuant to an investigation,

Tingue was alleged to have trespassed on a neighbor’s property, and then harassed the subject with obscenities after he was interviewed by State Troopers from the Machias barracks in regard to the trespass.

Tingue was arrested on a warrant issued by the town of Yorkshire Court for the charges, arraigned and remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail on $1,000 cash or $2,000 property bond.

Fire Report

– June 30, 9:14 p.m., Springville firefighters responded to a first aid call on Pearl Street. Rural Metro Ambulance transported to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital

– July 2, 11:17 a.m., Springville firefighters responded to a mutual aid request from West Valley for a stand-by for a fire on Depot Street.

– July 2, 5:25 p.m., Springville firefighters responded to a Mercy Flight WNY assist at BCH.

– July 2, 10:55 p.m., Chaffee-Sardinia firefighters responded to a first aid call on Allen Road. Transported to Mercy Hospital in Buffalo.

July 4, 3:09 a.m., Springville firefighters responded to a first aid call on Waverly Street.

– July 4, 11:48 a.m., Chaffee-Sardinia responded to a tractor fire on Olean Road. Found it was not in Chaffee-Sardinia district but was on Old Olean Road.

– July 5, 11:11 p.m., East Concord firefighters responded to a first aid call on Foote Road. Transported to Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.
