Fatal motorcycle accident in Machias

MACHIAS — New York State Trooper William Garland of the Machias barracks responded to a motorcycle accident on McKinstry Road in the town of Machias on Aug. 11, at 7 p.m.

While travelling southbound on McKinstry Road, the operator failed to negotiate a curve and travelled off the roadway, onto loose gravel. As the motorcycle re-entered the southbound lane of McKinstry Road, the operator lost control of the vehicle, ejecting both the operator and the passenger.

A 43-year-female from Machias died, due to injuries sustained in the crash, and a 49-year-old Machias man is in critical condition, after being flown by Mercy Flight WNY to Erie County Medical Center. Uniform and Bureau of Criminal Investigation personnel on the scene were assisted by the New York State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
