Colden Methodist church names a new pastor

COLDEN — Colden United Methodist Church has received a new pastor. The Rev. Bruce Benson replaced The Rev.Robert Zimmerman, who has retired.

Benson, a lifelong Methodist, has been a member of the Eden United Methodist Church for more than 20 years.

He was born in Buffalo, the youngest of two children, and lived in Syracuse; Springfield, Mass.; Rochester, Buffalo and Williamsport, Pa.

In August, Benson and his wife, Jeanette, will celebrate their 32nd wedding anniversary. The couple has one son, Christopher, who is working for the Federal Reserve in Washington, D.C.

He is a graduate of Mansfield University in Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelors degree in music education and a Masters of Music degree. He received a certificate of advanced study, in school administration, from the State University of New York at Fredonia and graduated from the superintendent development program at SUNY Oswego.

Benson served 32 years in public education, as a band director and a school principal, before entering the ministry. He is currently enrolled in a Master of Divinity degree program at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Having just completed his first year of study, he is working toward ordination as a United Methodist elder. He is serving as a licensed local pastor.
