Bonnie Bates takes new position

SPRINGVILLE — The Rev. Dr. Bonnie Bates, current pastor at Faith United Church of Christ in Boston, has taken a new position as the Associate Minister for Congregational Vitality and Development for the Joint Staff of the Eastern Ohio and Western Reserve Associations of the Ohio Conference of the United Church of Christ.

There, she will be responsible for staff support to the departments of church and ministry; assisting congregations in revitalization; coaching clergy; lay leaders and church vitality teams; recruiting and developing pastors for new church starts; supporting the work of the United Church of Christ within the associations and providing resource support to prophetic witness teams.

Bates’ background includes a Bachelor of Arts in organization management from Calumet College of St. Joseph in 1994, a master’s degree in human resource development from St. John Fisher College in 2000, a Master’s of Divinity from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in 2005 and a Doctor of Ministry degree in Transformative Leadership from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in 2011.

Before serving Faith United Church of Christ from 2009-2014, she was the pastor of the United Church of Madrid from 2005-2009, served at the Durand United Church of Christ as pulpit supply pastor in 2005, Henrietta United Church of Christ, as part-time youth pastor from 2004-2005 and the First Congregational Church of Riga, United Church of Christ as interim pastor from 2003-2004.

A farewell reception will be held for her on Feb. 16 at 11:30 a.m. at Faith United Church of Christ. The church is located at 8651 Boston State Road in Boston. All are invited to attend. For more information, contact the church office at 941- 3529.

Bates and her husband Steve Vulcheff will reside in Stow, Ohio.
