A party wishing Mary “Beth” Bolt, former town of Concord clerk, the best in her retirement was held by family and friends on Feb. 11 at the Springville Fire Hall.

Many braved the cold to see Bolt and say goodbye to the face that greeted visitors at the Concord Town Hall for more than 30 years.

Bolt’s daughter Cori said that her mother was known around town for putting “hi!”s on tax bills. “My mom used to go through the thousands of town and county tax bills and write ‘hi’ on all the people’s she knew,” Cori Bolt said. In Beth Bolt’s early years, she wrote it on about 10 but by 2011, she was writing “hi!” on hundreds.

“I worked with her for a couple years,” Cori Bolt said. “I thought she was nuts, going through all those tax bills with a pencil, but - because I was her daughter and with her around town - people would always mention how they loved the ‘hi’ on their tax bill.”

So, for Beth Bolt’s party, her family created a candy table and labeled it “One last ‘Hi!’ from Beth.”

On that table as well were Mike and Ike® Candies - because she always had them on her town clerk counter for people - and Tootsie® Pops, her favorites.
