WEST VALLEY — When the girls varsity bowling team from West Valley Central School faces off against Hinsdale on Dec. 12, several new athletes will be taking to the lanes.
Erika Seltzer is the lone seventh grader of the bunch, while four new freshmen will also join her. Jordan Seltzer, Kelsey Lee Evens, Kyrah Kittle and substitute Rachel Morton will join Erika Seltzer, as rookies on the girls squad.
Coach Jackie Mumbach said she looks to her core of veterans “to provide leadership, encouragement and support, to the new members of the team.” These returning players include senior Aamina Haykal and junior Linsey Smith.
Though outnumbered by the new athletes, these two girls will be expected to carry that leadership role, as the new members begin their high school careers, according to their coach.
“I look forward to working with these great girls, this year,” Mumbach said. “We are excited about the new season.”
The boys varsity team features two rookies, added to a core of returning athletes.
Seniors Cole Stanbro and Peter Gabel will lead the way, along with junior Evan Williams, as the veteran players. Senior Dylan Westfall begins his first season with the team, along with junior Derek Wells.
“The new members of the team will add some new energy and excitement,” Mumbach said. Substitutes for the boys team include senior Keegan Kittle, junior Frank Cardamone and eighth grader Derrick Miller. “They are waiting and ready to be there when we need them,” the coach said , concerning her substitutes.
The boys will also play against Hinsdale on Dec. 12. Mumbach said, “We are looking forward to a great season again, this year.”
