WEST VALLEY — Carrying a 3 – 2 record, the West Valley Central School boys varsity soccer team headed into its home game against Chautauqua Lake on Sept. 18, looking for win No. 4, on the season.
Goaltender Dylan Westfall recorded a shutout in each of his three victories, so far this season.
Despite the goaltender’s shutouts, the West Valley team lost every time Westfall surrendered a goal. Despite the goalie’s 20 saves against Chautauqua Lake, two balls got by him and West Valley lost 2 – 0, unable to counter with any offense.
The loss knocked West Valley down to 3 – 3. On Thursday, Sept. 20, the Wildcats were on the road against Maple Grove. There would be no shutout this time and no goal-scoring, as Westfall’s 30-save performance could not save his team from a 3 – 0 defeat.
The West Valley boys went 0 – 2 last week, despite their goalie’s turning aside more than 90 percent of the shots fired at him.
The boys hosted Ellicottville on Tuesday, Sept. 25 and traveled to Franklinville on Sept. 27. Their next game is on Monday, Oct. 1, on the road against Hinsdale. The game will begin at 4:30 p.m.
