SPRINGVILLE — For the second weekend in a row, the Springville-Griffith Institute track team met in Lancaster, to showcase its talent.
Joe Cocina headlined the athletes’ efforts, by being a finalist in two different events: the 1,000 and the 1,600. He came in third in both races, finishing with times of 2:50.3 and 5:02.0, respectively.
Springville’s Jess Wojtkowiak led the way among the girls, with a second place finish in the 1,500. Her time was 5:10.5.
In the same event, Sam Peterman came in sixth, with 5:19.6. Also finishing for the girls was Hanna Hebden, whose 1:53.5 time in the 600 earned her fifth place.
One group event made its mark and that was the foursome of Peterman, Wojtkowiak, Joelle Adamczyk and Kalei Brautlacht. The athletes’ combined time of 10:58 put them behind one other group, as they took second place, in the 4-by-800.
The co-ed track team was slated for another meet on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Fredonia State College. Springville will be competing at Fredonia in each of its next three meets, including on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 9 a.m. and Thursday, Feb. 21 at 9 a.m.
