SPRINGVILLE — The Springville-Griffith Institute wrestling team won one match and lost one match, on Dec. 17 and Dec. 20, respectively, and competed in a tournament on Dec. 21.
On Dec. 17, the team took on Holland and won 63-6.
Jerry Weeks of S-GI pinned Cassidy Territo of Holland; Ian Baker of Springville pinned Corey Winter of Holland; Bryant Boundy of S-GI pinned Joshua Smith of Holland; Greg Benstead of S-GI pinned Ryan Potzler of Holland; Patrick O’Brien of S-GI won by forfeit; Josh Ball of S-GI won by forfeit; Vince Tripi of Holland pinned Tessa Smith of S-GI; B. Clark Dubay of S-GI won by forfeit; Zack Swank of S-GI won by forfeit; Jobe Fleming of S-GI won by forfeit; Bryce Szudzik of S-GI won over James Herr of Holland and Jake Smith of S-GI won by forfeit.
On Dec. 20, the S-GI wrestlers took on Eden and lost 54-9.
Cole Simmons of Eden pinned Fleming; Jake Smith of S-GI won over Jesse Vondell of Eden; Szudzik of S-GI pinned Cole Overhoff of Eden; Peter Schmitz of Eden pinned Weeks of S-GI; Jonah Baldwin of Eden pinned S-GI’s Baker; Alex Smythe of Eden pinned Boundy of S-GI; Eric Schaffer of Eden pinned Tessa Smith of S-GI; Sawyer Overhoff of Eden pinned Swank.
Springville was deducted 2 team points for unsportsmanlike conduct.
On Dec. 21, the S-GI grapplers traveled to North Tonawanda, for the North Tonawanda Junior Varsity Tournament.
Tyler Rivers of Niagara-Wheatfield won by a pin over Tessa Smith of S-GI; Hunter Odenski of Akron also pinned Smith.
Hunter Freeman of Medina won by a pin over Anthony Mitchell of S-GI. Mitchell defeated Cain Wright of Wayne High School and pinned Dave Owczarczak of St. Mary’s High School; Noah Dorman of Ripley won by a decision over Mitchell.
Tyler Federson of S-GI won by pin of Josh Smith of Lewport High School; Jasen Takhusak of St. Francis High School won by pinning over Federson; Federson won by a pin over Kent Baker-Printup of Niagara Wheatfield High School and Will Story of St. Mary’s High School pinned Federson.
