WNY Varsity Hockey Federation: West Seneca West advances in overtime
Sunday February 19, 2012 | By:Charles Roberts, Sports Reporter
The No. 4-seed West Seneca West Indians scored with one minute remaining in overtime Saturday, beating the No. 5-seed Williamsville South Billies, 3-2, in the small-school, quarterfinal playoffs in the Northtowns Center at Amherst.
John Danovskis scored the winning goal on a breakaway after receiving a long pass from Brandon Bork, who picked up the final of his three-point night.
“I thought we were both feeling each other out in the first two periods,” said Indians coach Kevin Rozo. "We started slow, but managed to find our game midway through the second."
The Billies’ Adam Herr scored the game’s first goal early in the second period. Brendan Barren evened the score, on the power play.
Alex Hahn responded with a power-play goal of his own, giving the Billies a 2-1 third-period lead. With less than six minutes remaining, Bork scored the game-tying goal – also with the man-advantage.
The Indians advance to play the No. 2-seed Williamsville East Flames in the semifinals, held Feb. 21 in the Northtowns Center at Amherst. The two teams last met Feb. 10, a 1-0 victory for the Indians.
