SPRINGVILLE — The Springville-Griffith Institute junior varsity girls volleyball team pulled out a win over the visiting Cheektowaga Warriors by a score of 2-1. The girls won game one by a score of 25-23.
According to coach Robert Gainey, that game saw the hardest, at-net hit of the year by Lexy Sopko and hustle plays by Sara Kwiatkowski.
In game two, the girls began going down 15-4, in the face of the Warriors’ serves.
“The girls hung strong and pulled out a thrilling 29-27 win, led by the outstanding serving of Kwiatkowski, hustle plays by Sydney Schindler and timely passing by Jennavieve Lehr,” Gainey said.
The girls dropped the third game, but saw plays from Jess Roggie and successful serving from Chloe Wnuk, in what Gainey called a solid effort from all members of his team.
The girls traveled to West Seneca West High School on Sept. 17, but lost that match by a score of 3-0.
“Unfortunately, the girls had a tough night with ball control and net play, during the contest,” Gainey said, of what brought about the loss.
According to Gainey, the girls looked to get back on track when they hosted Immaculata on Sept. 19.
