WEST VALLEY — Three student athletes from West Valley Central School competed in the Super 8 track meet, held in Salamanca on May 17.
“The Super 8 meet comprises of the top 8 athletes, in each event, combined from Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties,” explained Coach Kris Fuller.
Two of the athletes, Janae Hamilton and Rachael Zimmer, came from West Valley’s girls squad, while Alex Steinbroner represented the boys team.
Zimmer was seventh, in both the 100-meter hurdles and long jump, but she set a career high mark, in the long jump, with 15 feet, 1 inch.
Hamilton took an eighth place finish, in the 100-meter dash. Steinbroner became the first West Valley boy in four years to qualify for the triple jump, but was unable to participate, due to an injury he had incurred.
On May 18, four West Valley track athletes participated in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Pentathlon in Gowanda.
Zimmer was the only female participant, making her mark, with a fifth place finish. The requirement for qualifying for sectionals was 1,800 and Zimmer beat that by 209 points, finishing with 2,009.
Three representatives from the boys team were at the meet, including Collin Proctor, Frank Cardamone and Ethan Boberg.
Proctor earned seventh place, with 2,338 points, with passed the provisional qualifier for his group, which was 2,100 points. Cardamone, at 18th, and Boberg, at 22nd, failed to qualify for the sectional competitions, with 1,812 points and 1,607 points, respectively.
