SPRINGVILLE Some inclement weather and a change of schedule did not deter Springville-Griffith Institute student Mitchell Bunic from performing, on June 16.
Competing in the Quakerman Triathlon, Bunic participated with 174 others and managed to finish in the top 10, rounding out the competition in ninth place. His completion was first, among the participating athletes his age.
Due to a high bacterial count in Lake Erie, the swim in the triathlon was replaced with a 2 1/2-mile run.
During that event, Bunic took fifth place, with a time of 16:08. The next competition was the 20K bike, in which Bunic’s time of 38:19 put him in the top third of participants.
Finally, he ran the 5K in 20:55, good for fourth place.
Bunic will be a junior at S-GI, next year. The student athlete participates in three different sports, at school.
