Eighth-grade Pinnacle Hawks win final tournament

PINNACLE OF SUCCESS ó The Pinnacle Hawks eighth-grade girls team won the CYP March Madness Tournament. FRONTIER ó The Pinnacle Hawks eighth-grade girls basketball team won the CYP March Madness tournament held March 8-9 at Saint John Fischer and Monroe Community College in Rochester.

The Hawks outscored their opponents by an aggregate score of 230-124, in their four victories, over the host team CYP-DíAmico, as well as Hilton Select-Schiano and two Penfield teams.

The Hawks were led by center and top-rebounder Emma Brinker of East Aurora, with 61 points, and point guard Erica Martinsen, with 45 points. Also contributing to the teamís offense were shooting guards Michaela Ryan, with 37 points, Sara Pfieffer, with 33 points, and Jane Chiachia, with 26 points. Kaylee Guy, Ally Jozwiak, Lily Wozniak and Naomi DeBerry provided rebounding and solid defensive efforts.

This tournament marks the final appearance for Pinnacle, for all the team members, especially Martinsen and Ryan, each of whom have competed on this eighth-grade team for three seasons. The Pinnacle Hawks were coached this year by Gregg Martinsen.
