WEST VALLEY — Both bowling teams from West Valley Central School began their respective seasons on Wednesday, Dec. 12 against Hinsdale. Both the boys and the girls played a four-game match and, while the girls managed one win out of the four, the boys swept the match, to start off the season 1 – 0. The girls start off 0 – 1.

Evan Williams held the high score on the night, for the boys, bowling a 196. It was Cole Stanbro who had the highest total, during three games in the series, recording 539 pins, in that stretch. He, Peter Gabel and Paul Davies led the boys to four straight wins.

“The boys had a great night,” said Coach Jackie Mumbach. “All of the boys bowled well. Stanbro, Gabel and Davies were the leaders of the night, with their consistent bowling. Derek Wells and Dylan Westfall bowled very well, which led to the team winning all four games of the match.

“I’m looking forward to a great season, with these boys,” she added.

While the girls did not see the same success in the win column as the boys did, the coach said she was not disappointed in their performances.

“The girls fought hard, but came up a little short, against Hinsdale,” she noted. “I am proud of the way the girls performed.”

After dropping the first game, the girls evened the series with a victory in game two. However, that win was the only victory on the evening, for the girls. “The third game was very tough and they came up short, losing total pins, as a result,” Mumbach said.

Aamina Haykal held the high single game score of 152. During three games, Lindsey Smith had a total of 349, to lead the team in scoring. Those two girls are the only members’ returning, from last year’s club. Rookie Jordan Seltzer finished third, in team scoring.

“Kyrah Kittle and Kelsey Evens did their best to contribute to the team,” Mumbach noted. “I am proud of these girls and look forward to the season.”

Both the boys and the girls teams were back in action on Dec. 19, this time against Allegany-Limestone.

The next time the teams take to the lanes will be on Wednesday, Jan. 2, when West Valley takes on Cattaraugus-Little Valley. Those games will be at 3:30 p.m. at Cascade Lanes.
