S-GI volleyball wins against Depew

SPRINGVILLE — The Springville-Griffith Institute Junior Varsity girls volleyball team started their week on Oct. 2 by defeating the Depew Wildcats by a score of 2-1.

The girls won the first game 25-23 and the second game 26-24 in what coach Robert Gainey called “thrilling fashion.”

Leading the ladies at the net were Sara Kwiatkowski, Sarah Zimmer and Emilie Laudenslager.

The passing of Emily Zebrowski helped ensure the win, after the girls lost earlier in the year to the Wildcats, by a score of 3-0. The ladies dropped the third game but saw “tremendous effort” out of Hannah Booth and Jennavieve Lehr, according to Gainey.

The girls were back in action on Oct. 4, when they hosted the Pioneer Panthers.
