SPRINGVILLE — The wrestlers from Springville-Griffith Institute closed out their tournament schedule on Jan. 26, at Kenmore West High School.
Coach Gary Feltz pointed out four athletes who, he said, stood out, during that competition. The first of these students was Ian Baker, who finished “in dominant style,” according to his coach. Baker pinned three wrestlers, on his way to the finals.
“In the championship match, Ian totally dominated his opponent,” Feltz said. Baker won 17 – 0 by a technical fall, closing out his season on top. “Jerry Weeks also wrestled dominantly,” Feltz said. Weeks pinned two opponents and finished 4 – 1. He placed third, during the tournament.
Connor O’Brien finished 2 – 2. Pat O’Brien took third place, at 195, during the tournament.
The wrestling team from S-GI is not scheduled to participate in any more tournaments, this winter. In their season schedule, the boys finished 1 – 7, winning the final game of the season.
