SPRINGVILLE — The St. Aloysius Regional basketball team recently went 1-2 in the St. Bernadette’s basketball tournament. The team played three games, over a week’s span. St. Aloysius’ first game was against a St. Mark’s team from Buffalo. St. Aloysius played tough until the end, but lost 42-33, according to coach Robert Duggan. Danny Robertson had 23 points, in the loss.
St. Aloysius began the consolation round play against Saints Peter and Paul of Hamburg. The team played some great defense and did a superb job of grabbing rebounds, the coach noted. St. Aloysius would win 43-24, and was led by Robertson, with 22; Frank Neff, with 8 and Matt Scion with 7.
The final game of the tournament was against Nativity from Orchard Park, a team St. Aloysius had played previously, in the St. Francis Tournament. Nativity came out strong and led at the half. St. Aloysius battled back and closed Nativity’s lead to 6. Nativity hit some timely shots, down the end, and won the game 35-26. Robertson had 20 points, in the loss.
