SPRINGVILLE — On Oct. 19, 15 girls represented Springville-Griffith Institute at the annual B Meet for swimming and diving at Maryvale High School. The Springville Griffin swimmers and divers dominated in the water, according to coach Karen Reynolds.

“We walked away with numerous ribbons, that are awarded to the top eight girls in each event,” she said.

The meet started out with Samantha Zifra diving her highest marks of the season and taking a fifth place ribbon, overall. The 200-medley relay of Allison Lavanture, Abigail Galley, Katie Schlemmer and MacKenzie Engle took second place overall, with a time of 2 minutes, 28.57 seconds. The secondary 200-medley relay finished in eighth place. Those girls were Victoria Piatek, Sydney Emley, Kelsey Zabawa and Madisyn Emley. Syndey Emley swam both her individual event and dropped 5.4 seconds in her 200-free, for 2:36.07 and 8.32 seconds in her 500-free, for 6:57.88. Emley took home a second place ribbon and a first place ribbon for her 500 swim.

Lavanture dominated in her freestyle and backstroke events, sweeping a first place finish in both. Her 50-free time was 1.79 seconds faster than her personal best time, at 30 seconds, and her 100-back time, 1:20.39, dropped 3.1 seconds, qualifying her for ECIC championships. Piatek dropped 11.75 seconds in her 200-individual medley swim, for 3:11.95, and took a fourth place overall finish. Her 100-backstroke time and finish gave her a sixth place ribbon.

Chloe Milbrand dropped 3.17 seconds in her 200-free and took home an eighth place finish.

Anna Lawton took 11 seconds off and a third place finish in her 200-free time, at 2:37.93; in her 500 event, she dropped another 10.59 seconds for 6:59.71 and a third place ribbon.

Schlemmer took sixth place in her 200-freestyle event and second place overall in her 100-breastroke event.

Abigail Galley dropped time in her 50-free, for 35.74, and also brought home a sixth place ribbon for her efforts in the 100-breaststroke.

Haley Patterson dropped 2.2 seconds from her 100-free time and 4.22 seconds in her 100-backstroke events. Madisyn Emley took 19.2 seconds off and brought home an eighth place ribbon for her 100-back. Lauren Cosenza dropped .58 seconds in her best 100-free time.

Engel dropped 1.77 seconds in her 100-breast times, in addition to first place relay ribbons. The 200-free relay team of Lavanture, Emley, Lawton and Engel took a first place finish, overall. The 400-relay repeated that, with a first place finish to end the morning. That team consisted of Schlemmer, Galley, Lawton and Madisyn Emley.
