WEST VALLEY — The West Valley varsity boys soccer team, despite not playing a game for months, continues to set records. The 2013 team received the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Team Award. This is the first time in the program’s nine seasons for the team to receive this award. The award is given to a team that earns a grade point average of 90 percent or higher, as a whole. The team posted a 91.53 percent average.
Twelve student/athletes are required to post a cumulative GPA of 90 percent or higher, in order to attain this award. The boys whose GPA earned this team award are Evan Williams, Patrick Enser, Paul Davies, Frank Cardamone, Emil Erlandson, Mike Nowak, Rin Tojo, Ethan Boberg, Josh Fleischman, Brandon Rockwood, Dan Colf and Austin Wierzba.
The 2013 season saw the team set numerous program marks. These records include most wins, with nine; most league wins, with six and the only team to post a winning percentage above .500, at .563 percent, with a 9-7 record.
“These boys are exceptional student/athletes as they experience success on and off the field of play,” said coach Kristopher Fuller.
