WEST VALLEY — The season for the modified girls volleyball team at West Valley began on Tuesday, Sept. 18, against Cattaraugus-Little Valley, a home game for West Valley.
“The strong serving of the Cattaraugus-Little Valley was too challenging for the Wildcats,” said Coach Amy Butler following the game, after Cattaraugus-Little Valley won each game for the sweep.
The girls were back on the court two days later, against the Allegany-Limestone Gators. West Valley came up with the sweep, winning the first game 30 – 28.
“The teams were very closely matched, evidence by the score of the first game,” Butler said.
Despite many lead changes, West Valley won the next two games as well, evening out its record at 1 – 1. “Stronger serving and good team play made the difference for the Lady Cats,” Butler said.
On Sept. 25, West Valley hosted Salamanca.
The Wildcats’ next game will take place on Monday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. at home against Hinsdale.
The West Valley team has 10 members, including four eighth graders; Elizabeth Heim, Monica Kelley, Madison Johnson and Kim Kaiser and six seventh graders; Ashley Frank, Ashley Laudisio, Julianna Noto, Erika Seltzer, Sarah Sheffield and Kailin Yonker.
“The team is looking forward to a season filled with growth and fun,” said Butler.
