SPRINGVILLE — Springville-Griffith Institute’s track athletes competed at the Pioneer Invitational on May 4. Two of Springville’s competitors took first place finishes: Tom Schweickert and Devon White-Kearns. Schweickert won the 400 hurdles event, with a time of 1 minute, .98 seconds, while also finishing second, in the 110-hurdles in 17.56 seconds. White-Kearns won the junior varsity 100-meter dash in 12.56. He also finished sixth, in the JV long jump, with 14 feet, 11 inches.

Schweickert was also part of the 4-by-400 relay. He teamed up with Mitch Bunic, Ethan Benz and Garret Olrogg, for a combined time of 3.57.8, for a third-place finish. Bunic had another third-place finish, as he competed in the steeplechase and got a time of 10.43.2.
Talon Berry was fifth in the long jump, at 18 feet, 2 1/2 inches and second, in the high jump, with a 5 feet, 6 inches. Matt Adams took sixth, in the shot put, at 42 feet, 8 inches.
The next action for the Springville track team was the Frontier Invitational in Hamburg. After that match, Springville will host Depew on Tuesday, May 14. That game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., at Springville-Griffith Institute High School.
