S-GI athletes excel in the classroom

SPRINGVILLE — The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has recently recognized the efforts of several Springville-Griffith Institute student athletes from the winter 2012 interscholastic season.

The scholar athlete team awards for achieving a grade point average of 90 percent or higher went to the following S-GI varsity programs: girls basketball, with 95.241 percent; girls bowling, with 95.040 percent; girls indoor track, with 94.302 percent; boys basketball, with 90.469 percent; boys swimming, with 90.469 percent and boys bowling, with 90.406 percent.

In addition, Section 6 has recongized several local seniors as scholar athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom, during the past six semesters, in addition to their contributions within the athletic arena.

These recipients included William Dickinson, Tara Felser, Sierra Bowen and Alexis Lines. Receiving honorable mentions were Valentine Hill, Miranda Clark and Hunter McCarthy.

“Kudos, to not only the athletes for their astounding efforts, but also to their coaches and families for their guidance and support,” said S-GI Director of Physical Education, Health and Athletics Joseph DeMartino.
