WEST VALLEY — The West Valley varsity soccer team will kick off its second season this September, after going 5 - 12 - 0, last year.
“We are excited to begin our program’s second season at West Valley,” said coach Kris Fuller. “In 2012, we established a program with no players’ having any JV or varsity playing experience. We were viewed as being the underdog team with the most to prove.”
The team beat those odds and racked up four shut-out victories. This season, the 24-person team includes 16 returning lettermen. The offense will be led by Austin Wierzba, Ethan Boberg, Emil Erlandson, Mike Nowak and Matt Proctor. The defense will be anchored by Collin Proctor, Derek Wells, Gaege Morris, Frank Cardamone and Patrick Enser. Goalie duties will be shared between Jon Zimmer and Dan Colf.
“We have had numerous players who have been committed, throughout the summer, in refining their skills and team chemistry,” Fuller continued. “Our goals are to improve our offense’s potency and to maintain a stout and physical defense. We will be competitive, throughout the season, and contend for the Class D crown.
The first game is Saturday, Sept. 7 at West Valley. The team will take on Franklinville at 11 a.m.
