Springville native wins silver with Team USA

SPRINGVILLE —Jess Hackett of Springville was chosen to be the assistant captain of the 2013 United States of America Roller Sports Junior Men Inline Hockey Team USA.

That team won the silver medal at the 2013 Federale Internationale de Roller Sports Inline Hockey World Championships, held in Anaheim and Huntington Beach, Calif. on July 6 – 13.

The FIRS is officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the international governing body for all roller skating sports.

Hackett is the only returning player on Team USA. His team won a bronze medal, last year.

The hockey player was also offered a contract to play on the Philadelphia Revolution Junior A ice hockey team, this fall. The team is part of the Eastern Junior Hockey League.

Hackett is currently competing in the North American Roller Hockey Championship finals in Toronto.

The Springville native recently completed his freshman year at Canisius College and plays for the Alkali Fusion hockey team of Buffalo.
