S-GI soccer shuts out the competition

SPRINGVILLE — On Sept. 24, the Springville-Griffith Institute boys Junior Varsity soccer team evened its record to 3-3-2, with a 2-0 victory against Maryvale.

Zach Heary scored about 13 minutes into the contest, to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.

Midway through the second half, David Reese took a corner kick that deflected off of a Maryvale defender and into the goal, to increase the Springville lead to 2-0.

The defense was led by Reese, Matt Hartman, Jake Kontos and Jimmy Shearer.

According to the coach, all of those boys played strong, throughout the game. Nolan West kept the net clear, stopping a penalty kick to record the shutout.

The next game is Sept. 28, when the team will travel to face off against Amherst.
