SPRINGVILLE — The Springville-Griffith Institute girls junior varsity volleyball team won their second match of the week on Sept. 19, by defeating the Alleghany Limestone Gators by a score of 2-1.
The girls took the first game 25-13 and lost the second game 25-13. In the third game, the Lady Griffs forced a quick side out and kept the serve, for 8 consecutive points, winning the game 25-17. Leading the girls on the night were Emilie Laudenslager, Sara Kwiatkowski, Hailey Lines, Emily Zebrowski and Lexy Sopko.
“The girls are starting to hit their stride, as their overall serving and net play have improved tremendously,” coachRobert Gainey said. The team won a Sept. 20 match over the Immaculata Bears, by a score of 2-1. The girls dropped the first game 25-20, but stormed back and won game two 25-17 and game three 25-21.
“The girls had some excellent passes on the night, from Sara Laudenslager and Sara Kwiatkowski,” said coach Robert Gainey. “The aggressive hitting of Lexy Sopko and strong net play of Sarah Zimmer led the Griffs to the big win.”
The S-GI JV volleyball girls defeated the East Aurora Blue Devil team by a score of 2-1. The girls dropped the first game 25-19, but bounced back to win game two 25-18 and game three 25-19. Leading the way for the girls was the serving of Emily Barger, passing by Laudenslager, and all around effort of Kwiatkowski. “This marks the girls fourth win over the last five matches as the girls have demonstrated excellent team work and effort over this stretch,” Gainey said.
