Oct. 4, 1962

On Jan. 1, John Link will succeed Howard Shamel as manager of the Springville office of the Marine Trust Company of Western New York. Shamel, who has been with the Marine Trust since it acquired the Citizens National Bank of Springville in 1955, will retire at the end of the year.

Last week, frosts were recorded in this area. According to the naturalists who predict the weather by the birds and bugs, a bad winter is in store for us.

Army Private First Class Ralph Keller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Keller of West Valley, recently participated in the 3rd Armored Division’s four-week field training exercises in Grafenwohr, Germany.

Pfeffer – Hanson – Diane Hanson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Hanson of West Valley and Charles Pfeffer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pfeffer of West Valley, were married Sept. 8 at Salem Lutheran Church in Springville.

Bishop – Bunnell – Sandra Lynn Bunnell, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard bunnell of West Valley and Glenn Bishop, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bishop of West Valley, were married in the Evangelical United Brethren Church on Sept. 22 by the Rev. Robert Leach.

Schneider – Pfarner – At the Salem Lutheran Church, Phyllis Pfarner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Pfarner of Trevett Road and Michael Edward Schneider, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schneider of Trevett Road, were married on Sept. 15, by the Rev. Daniel Knueppel.

Oct. 5, 1972

Kris Uhlig was crowned queen at the annual Pop Warner Night, at which the Springville-Griffith Institute football team defeated Alden 42 – 12.

McCall – Youngblood – On Aug. 25, in the First Baptist Church, Elkhart, Ind., by the Rev. Daniel Gelatt, Karen Youngblood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Youngblood of Elkhart, married Airman James McCall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McCall of Springville.

Sept. 30, 1982

Twins Norma Clark Robinson and Irma Clark McGuire will celebrate their 90th birthdays on Oct. 3.

Brian Schumacher, the son of Richard Schumacher of West Valley, is the new assistant sales manager for Jewett Refrigerator Company Inc.

Assemblyman Richard Kennedy presented Mr. and Mrs. Walter Franz with a resolution which was adopted by the state legislature, congratulating them on the 60th anniversary of their marriage.

Becker – Smith – Tracie Ann Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smith of Springville and the Rev. David Lynn Becker, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Bernard Becker of Green Isle, Minn., were married on Aug. 7 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Springville.

Oct. 1, 1992

A southbound Buffalo-Pittsburgh freight train of 30 cars experienced a partial derailment of six cars Wednesday at 3:15 a.m. The incident took place near 8318 State Road in Colden.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barthel celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 8. Barthel and the former Elizabeth Jean Marble were married Aug. 8, 1942 at the bride’s home on West Main Street in Springville.

Harold and Lucille (nee Domon) Polzin of Lawtons will celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary on Oct. 17. They were married in Lancaster in 1934.

Eric Wilson, formerly of Springville, has been named news director of radio station 101.5 FM in Trenton, N.J. He will use a radio name of Eric Scott.

Schunk – Horton – Karen Horton, the daughter of Joan Horton of East Aurora and the late William Horton, and Douglas Schunk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Schunk of Springville, were married July 4 at St. George’s Church in West Falls.

Sept. 26, 2002

Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville has temporarily closed its maternity room, to review processes within the department.

The first modular nuclear medicine unit in the area opened at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital on Sept. 20. It is an imaging technique, in which a patient swallows or is injected with chemicals and is scanned to create a detailed image of an organ.

A public hearing was held to address concerns, after the Concord Town Board voted in August to not renew the contract the town has with the Boston Fire Company to provide structural fire coverage to homes in the Trevett, Brown Hill and Abbott Hill Road areas of Concord.

Kristin (nee Botsford) and Scott Ferris of Matawan, N.J., Sept. 15, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, N.J. Grandparents are Lynn and Amy Botsford and great-grandparents are Erma Botsford and Henrietta Dell; Kevin Monnin Sr. and Elaine Morrissey of Gowanda, Sept. 17, Kevin Arthur Jr.

A girl was born to:
Peter and Holley Hunter of Springville, Sept. 20, at Mercy Hospital, Buffalo, Elyssa Marie.

Twins were born to:
Major Robert Phillips, formerly of Colden, and Stephanie Phillips, Sept. 16, at St. John’s Hospital in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, a boy and a girl, Christian and Shanna. Grandparents are Bob and Jane Phillips of East Otto, Jukes and Trish Barrett of New Zealand and Alan and Janice Walker of California.
