FIFTY YEARS AGO
May 30, 1963

Mr. and Mrs. Del Babcock will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary on May 30.

Construction has started on the privately-owned plant fin Ashford, or reprocessing spent nuclear fuels.

Emil Glow, shipfitter first class, United States Navy, was advanced in rank May 16, while serving aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Constellation.

Springville’s first Pageant of Bands, under the leadership of Gerald DeLisle, head of the music department at Springville-Griffith Institute, proved to be a success.

Albert Ludwig of Chaffee, May 22; Leon Goodemote of Springville, May 23.

Girls were born to Mr. and Mrs.:
Arthur Buncy of Chaffee, at Olean General Hospital, May 21; Norman Perkins of Machias, May 16; John Benz of West Valley, May 22.

FORTY YEARS AGO
May 31, 1973

Jill Ottney, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Johnston of Springville, has been selected as the American Legion Auxiliary, Concord Post No. 431 representative to the 30th annual Girls State session, to be held at Cazenovia College.

Airman Lynn Botsford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Botsford of Springville, has been assigned to Chanute Air Force Base, Ill., after completing Air Force basic training.

The Springville Fire Company honored three of its firemen, at a recent dinner. Those honored were Clayton Boberg and Albert Cobo, for 25 years of continuing service, and Gordon Rouse, for 53 years.

THIRTY YEARS AGO
May 26, 1983

Richard Reeve has been chosen as an inductee into Springville’s Glenn “Pop” Warner Hall of Fame. The annual presentation will be held at the Springville Middle School. Reeve, the son of Marion Reeve, was born in Oneida on Aug. 14, 1940. His family then moved to Colden. Richard Reeve started his high school career in 1956 at Springville-Griffith Institute, where he lettered in football, baseball, basketball, tennis and track.

The Springville Meat Shoppe will open May 26 at the former location of Benzing’s Market, which was operated by Kenneth Barie. The new owner, Ted Martin, is bringing 40 years of experience in the meat business. Martin grew up in the Bailey-Delevan area of Buffalo and operated a meat shop in Angola, for 19 years.

Fluker – Wallech – Marine Sgt. Richard Fluker of Boston married Brenda Wallech of Maryland on April 9, at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Boston.

TWENTY YEARS AGO
May 27, 1993

Amy Beth Timm, the daughter of Richard and Penny Timm of Springville, graduated in the 171st class at the State Police Academy in Albany. She is currently stationed in Walworth near Rochester.

Annmarie Baglio, daughter of Michael and Ann Baglio of Springville, has been named Girls State representative, by the American Legion Auxiliary Concord Post 431. The session will be held at Russell Sage College in Troy.
