JV soccer finishes season with winning record

SPRINGVILLE—The Springville-Griffith Institute boys junior varsity soccer team completed the 2018 season 10-4-0.

The Griffins scored 35 goals; while only allowing 13 on the season. Thirteen different players scored at least one goal during the season. Freshman Hunter Keem led the team with seven goals. On the defense, Austin Boies saw the bulk of the action in goal, with the team recording eight shutouts.

The Griffins early season face-off with Alden set the pace for the season. An intense game, Springville walked away on top, handing the Bulldogs their only season loss. Sept. 25’s game against Lackawanna saw a Griffin comeback. The Steelers headed into the half with a 3-0 lead, but Springville answered with four goals to win the game.

Captains Boies, Cameron Denny and Charley DiGangi provided great leadership for the team.  Also ending the season on the team were John Andreeff, Kyle Baker, Eric Copeland, Nathan Cudney, Andrew Fisher, Ethan Fisher, Daniel Gernatt, Josh Guerrero, Will Guilmain, Garon Holland, Connor Hughey, Grant Karb, Hunter Keem, Ben Sullivan and Dylan Westbrook.
